Happy Holidays!!!

The holiday season can be an exciting time of year. However, with trees and decorations, lights and candles, safety becomes important to make sure that the holidays are happy and tragedies are avoided.

Each year, more than 400 home fires involve Christmas trees with 40 deaths and 100 injuries occurring as a result of those fires. You can avoid disaster if you select a fresh tree, keep it in a sturdy, water-holding stand, and most importantly, keep the tree away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources. If you use an artificial tree, choose one that is labeled as fire resistant.

Lights make the holidays festive, but be sure to use caution. Look only for lights with the UL label. Lights intended for indoor use should never be used outdoors. Check for broken lights or frayed wires, and never use more than three light sets on any one extension cord. Turn off all lights on trees and decorations when you go to bed or leave the house.

Fireplaces are meant for enjoying warmth – do not use them as a place to dispose of evergreens or wreaths. They can flare out of control, sending flames and smoke into the room. Wrapping paper should not be burned in the fireplace because it often contains metallic materials, which can be toxic. A little bit of caution will go a long way to making this a safe and happy holiday season.

Visit www.advproinc.com to see more information on monitored smoke detectors for your home or business. Our UL listed monitoring center is staffed year round, including the holidays, 24 hours a day, to ensure your monitored fire system keeps you safe.

No matter what you and your family are celebrating this year, we wish you all a

Safe and Happy Holiday!

Local Church

At 05:46, Rachel received a motion detector alarm.  Per the Client's instructions, she started calling RP's (Responsible Parties).  While speaking to the RP, she received the East Hall Motion, Library Motion and Front Motion.  She asked the RP if he wanted to check it out or if he wanted her to dispatch.  He asked her to call the next RP.  Rachel left a message for the next RP and called the first RP back.  They told her to go ahead and dispatch the police.  Rachel followed up with dispatch and they told her that the police had found an unsecured door and had one person detained.

We followed up with the RP's the next morning and they said a woman had found an unlocked door and came inside, but there was no damage done.

Way to go Rachel!!!

Local Business

At 20:56 Elysia received a Waterflow alarm and a Low Air alarm from here.  Per the Client's instructions she dispatched the Fire Department then notified Security.  She also reached an RP who said he would go meet the Fire Department.  While speaking to the RP, he mentioned that they had been having some problems with one of the compressors and he thought that may have caused it.  Elysia followed up with the RP later and he said there had indeed been Waterflow out of the building but fortunately not inside.  The compressor was having a problem and was the cause like he had suspected.  They were able to get the valve shut off and had Fire Systems West scheduled to come out and fix the problem.

Great job Elysia!

Getting to Know Our Team: Brandon Smith, Senior Sales Rep

I can’t believe it's December! What better way to end a very successful and productive 2012 then with a spotlight on our Senior Sales Rep who has contributed greatly to that success. Brandon Smith started in the security industry around 2006, and has been with Advantage Protection for almost 3 years. We have been very lucky to have someone on our team with extensive knowledge of all things security related, to include burglar systems, video surveillance, fire system design and sales and home automation. He builds long time trust in his relationships with his clients from his presentation to product knowledge.

Q. What lead you to the security industry?

When I got out of the Marine Corp I was looking for an industry that had relevance regardless of the ever changing economic conditions. I feel the security industry allows me to offer something of true importance while helping people to protect what is most valuable to them. The technology is also stimulating and I enjoy learning about new products on the market.

Q. What has been your greatest sales accomplishment?

Being able to draw out of clients what their true needs are and designing a solution that allows them to feel secure.

Q. What are you most proud of?

My 10 year old son who continues to make the honor role and is shaping up to be an outstanding individual. Also my 10 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps.

Q. What are some hobbies you enjoy when you aren’t at work?

I am a season ticket holder for the Portland Winterhawks, and am heavily involved in the exotic animal trade. I have a large collection of tarantulas and snakes; I enjoy working with my dogs and spending quality time with my family.

Q. Favorite thing about working for API, and least favorite thing?

My favorite thing about working at API is the group of people with varying personalities. My least favorite thing is some of the loose strings at the end of installations that are difficult to get wrapped up.

Q. At what time in the morning is it appropriate to start to talk with you?

Once I have spoken to you or after 9:30. I am definitely grumpy in the mornings.

Q. Coke or Pepsi?

Without a doubt Pepsi. Specifically Diet Pepsi so I can watch my girlish figure.

Q. Black or White?

Neither, black and white go best together.

Q. Most interesting place in the world that you have spent time?

Caribbean Islands.

Q. Which ring louder: Wedding Bells or Security Alarms?

I think we all know the answer to that one and it doesn’t involve purchasing jewelry LOL. All joking aside, been there done that and I include a siren with every job. I am committed to my girlfriend and we are on that path. I am waiting for her at this point to pull the trigger :)
